AVIMETAL and Shandong University have achieved a breakthrough:Manufactured IN939 Nickel-Based Alloy by LPBF Using Donut Laser Beam!✨

A major game-changer for aerospace Additive Manufacturing is here. Our strategic collaboration has achieved a breakthrough in annular beam Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) for IN939 nickel-based super alloys, solving a critical industry challenge! 💡

Traditional beams cause unstable quality (microcracks) in hard-to-print alloys. Our joint research successfully addresses this by converting beams to an annular shape, resulting in:

✅ A wider, more stable process window (no keyhole defects).
✅ Significantly boosted low-angle grain boundaries to 57.1%, drastically reducing cracking.
✅ Enhanced surface finish and hardness.

AVIMETAL in-depth participation throughout the process of the project: we provided the MT280 LPBF Equipment (with adjustable beam shaping) and MT-IN939 powder, based on engineering experience, to research plan formulation and process parameter optimization. Our findings are proudly featured as the cover article in Aeronautical Manufacturing Technology. 📰

We are proud to bridge academia and industry to elevate aerospace component production! 🤝🔬
